Buongiorno! That means hello in Italian. ;) One of the countries I was really looking forward to the most was Italy. We got to see Venice, Rome and Florence. When I think of Venice, I will forever think of romance. As a newly married couple, Stevie and I were really excited to experience our first gondola ride together. We went through all of the canals overlooking gorgeous scenes all around us. We even saw where George Clooney got married! (Naturally, I freaked out.) Venice was so charming and petite! Later that evening we enjoyed a Venetian feast with our Contiki friends. My favorite part of the night had to be the accordion player who was getting us hyped on classic Italian jams!

And then came Rome. My mind was blown in Rome. I mean this in the best way. We spent the day touring the ancient ruins and Colosseum. So breathtaking to see ancient history still standing! One of my favorite moments from my entire trip however was getting to tour The Vatican and stand in the Sistine Chapel. Everywhere I looked (especially up!) I was mesmerized.
When I walked into the Sistine Chapel (the holy-ist place in the world - we weren't allowed to take pics) I felt like I was in heaven. I was in awe. The thought that kept running through my mind was, “How could one man paint this entire chapel so colorfully and beautifully detailed.” Suddenly, I became so fascinated with Michael Angelo. It's incredible what one human being can do when he is called upon. I wondered how many people during his time doubted him. I was inspired. We learned that after he completed the art for the Sistine Chapel, he went blind. It wasn’t hard to believe after seeing his masterpiece. As we quietly stood with what seemed like over 100 people inside of this chapel, I spotted a glimpse at what stood front and center. My breath was taken away. Suddenly my attention wasn't on the art anymore. It wasn't on the people around me. It wasn't on Steve. There on a wooden cross, stood my Lord and Savior, Jesus. Not actual Jesus of course, but the perfect statue of Him. He looked so real that I began fighting back tears. I saw pain, I saw glory, and I saw peace on His face. I was overwhelmed with emotions because I felt so spiritually overwhelmed by the love of God. It was the first time in months that my mind was clear and I could hear Jesus telling me, "I'm proud of you." I needed to hear that. God knew I needed that.We couldn't end our time in Rome without trying their delicious food. After the tour ended, we grabbed pizza and gelato! I felt like Sophia Loren in this little outfit I decided to wear for our jam-packed (and scorching hot!) day in Rome.

Our Italian adventure ended in Florence, where we had the *Kanye West voice* BEST GELATO OF ALL TIME. Stevie and I decided to have a date night at the coziest little restaurant (can’t remember the name!!!!) where we had the best food of our entire trip. We tried this awesome ravioli that was stuffed with pear and cheese on top of a white creamy sauce. IT WAS SO GOOD! My mouth is watering right now thinking about it. Oh - and I accidentally ate chicken liver and didn’t know it until Steve said something. Oops! Of course after he said that, I spit it out like the movies and stopped eating it.Hope you enjoyed this post. I’ll be sharing my final diary entry on PARIS tomorrow so stay tuned! I’m also working on the video version of our trip so get ready for that soon. :)Cheers
