All fashion aside, I want to share a moment I had the other day. I got the craziest feeling when I was at a local LA pub enjoying the World Cup USA game. I noticed most of the TV screens were televising the World Cup but there was a smaller screen (that nobody was paying attention to) covering the Iraqi conflict happening right now in the Middle-East. Visually it made me stop and realize how sometimes we unknowingly turn our heads without noticing what's happening outside of 'our world'. I'm guilty of this. I think a lot of the times (for me at least) when I see something in the news I feel like I have no power to change it so I look the other way. It still feels wrong though. You're probably wondering where I'm going now with this rant.
I'm learning that making a difference is not measured in size. You can change someone's life by contributing to something as small as helping a friend move furniture into their new home or calling a relative to tell them, "I love you." In my personal life, I wake up and realize there's so much more to life than the pretty packages I get to open and the sunny city I get to explore and take Instagram pictures of.
Today I'm taking a timeout from my usual fashion rant and sharing a bigger way we can all help a cause. I partnered up with Hari Mari to shine light on their cute flip flops that are more than just cute - they're making a difference! For every flip flop sold, Hari Mari donates $3 to children battling pediatric cancer. They also partner with hospitals in the US that do not turn down children based on their financial or health insurance status. During the month of September, National Pediatric Awareness Month, Hari Mari will double their commitment and donate $6 for every pair of flops sold. How amazing is that? For me cancer is personal - as many of you know my little brother battled (and beat!) childhood Leukemia when he was 8. I'll never forget that time in my life and the moments we had along the way. My favorite memory was when the doctors tested my siblings and I to see who was my little brother's perfect 6/6 bonemarrow match. When the doctor said my name - I felt like I won the lottery. That is the best gift I will ever give. Seeing how healthy he is today brightening my day with his smile, is the best gift I can ever receive. I'm getting all gushy up in here!
My little brother "JiJi" 8 years at the time, kicking AML Leukemia in the butt. Picture below is the 13 year old cutie today.<3
I hope this post inspires you to take a timeout and think about those special moments you've had (and that are yet to come!) in your life. Join me and Hari Mari to make every moment count in a child's life. I included some of my favorites you can shop directly below or visit their site for more styles. (available for men too!)
Thanks for letting me rant today. ;)
